Mercy: Strength and Dignity

We want to share a story with you, that of a tender, sweet, and beautiful young woman whose life continues to reflect her name: Mercy.

“When I joined Neema, my body was weak. I was taken to the hospital and I started my therapy in 2017."

The firstborn of many children, Mercy has suffered with chronic pain from arthritis for 15 years now. After being diagnosed, she had to drop out of school despite her dream of going to technical school. Her family tried their best to provide medical help for her but the financial burden of treatment and medication costs forced them to lease out their land.

When she first came to Neema, Mercy’s face could tell all those around her how she felt broken and helpless because of her disability. But in the past three years, because of counseling, physical therapy, and a deepened relationship with her Creator, Mercy’s attitude has entirely changed!

“I’m now strong, able to walk, sewing better, and thankful for my friends. They are God-sent, helping me in washing, bringing me food, and showing me love. God has been so merciful to me and has really uplifted me.”

Completing her final year at Neema by working in our shop, she is now preparing for graduation and moving on to a new working environment. Our hearts are warmed just hearing how our simple gift of love has truly transformed Mercy’s life:

“I didn’t know that one day I could walk upright like I am now. People used to laugh at me and my family was looked down upon, but through God's grace, they now wonder. My family has always been there for me, showing me love. I’m now preparing for exams and my prayer moving on is that God would continue walking with me and create opportunities for me."

Truly, we couldn't do this work without you. Each and every one of you makes it possible for us to see lives transformed. With your help, we're able to provide love, safety, counseling, discipleship, and the skills training needed to lift these young women out of extreme poverty. Together, we are impacting the lives of Mercy and her Neema sisters.
