2022 Fashion Show!

Students, staff, and guardians dancing after the Fashion Show

By 10:00am, students, staff, and guardians had arrived at Neema and were waiting for the festivities to begin. Neema’s annual Fashion Show is a special time of year for students, staff, and alumni, and the Kenya staff team was thrilled to celebrate the students’ hard work and encourage their creativity!

As the fashion show began, our third year students took the runway, showing off and sharing their hard work with their friends, teachers, and guardians. One by one, they modeled their fresh designs of trousers, skirts, dresses, shorts, and more. And then, as they prepared for their second round of outfits, all of the children at Neema danced down the runway!

Once in their second outfits, the third year students walked the runway alongside their guardians, each in turn. “It was so beautiful and heartwarming for both the girls and the parents,” shared our staff.

The judges thoroughly assessed the quality and style of the designs, and awards were given to the top four designers. First place went to Florence, and she was crowned Miss Neema 2022! The judges said “She won because her designs were modern and original. Her sewing was well done and neat, and she was confident.”

Another highlight of the Fashion Show is that it’s an opportunity to reconnect with and encourage our alumni. Each of these graduates had a chance to model their outfits as well. In fact, one of them had been feeling discouraged about her business, but after the Fashion Show, she was feeling hopeful that by pressing into more creative endeavors, she can be more profitable.

And then, after all the students walked the runway, everyone took part in a dance party, with a song from every tribe represented being played. The festivities finished with lunch, which third year students were able to enjoy with their guardians. “It was a very beautiful day filled with so much joy and laughter. It was worth all the hard work that went into the planning.”
